  1. I want to increase the priority to forty-two and SpeedUp-forty-two no longer works. Can I just renice mpeg2enc and mplayer and ??? or is there more to it?

A few weeks ago SpeedUp-forty-two started quitting after asking for my password. Is there a way to get it working again?

Or perhaps I am missing something... Do I need to drop forty-two onto SpeedUp-forty-two every time I want to speed up forty-two or is it a one time program? It just occurred to me that maybe SpeedUp-forty-two changes something permanently so I might only need to run it once.

    Thanks,
    -Roger

That figures. I was trying to activate it every time I launched forty-two.

Any suggestions on the best way to renice the processes associated w/ forty-two? I want to run them up to +19 or +20 when I am off that computer. I know the syntax but I need to know if this will cause any problems.

    Thanks,
    -Roger

If you read the "docs" carefully , you will see that Kai warns of reniceing. Read the documentation carefully Roger.

Actually I have. I have also seen posts indicating that reniceing should help. Hence the reason for this thread.

I am hoping for a definitive post from Kai on this.

I am currently running forty-two and have reniced mpeg2enc, mplayer, yuvscaler, and cat to -20. Things are now running significantly faster. What was a 23 hour transcode at a nice value of 0 is now 17 hours after running an additional hour at -20.

  6. I would like to request clustering capabilities . I have 4 Macs running OSX on my network and would like to use those idle cycles to help speed up forty-two. Would this be hard to do?
