I have an Xvid file that according to the util Gspot (informs you of the codecs etc used in a file) contains a 5ch ac3 file. I want to convert this Xvid file to burn it on a DVD-R and I want to know how to extract the 5ch ac3 and then use it as the audio source and the converted Xvid video (converted to mv2) as the video source in my DVD authoring program. Can I just use Nandub to remove the "wav" and rename it as an ac3 ? Will it retain all 5 channels if I do this ?

Yeah but I don't have a "wav" file yet. Can I use BeSweet to remove the "wav" (or ac3) from the Xvid file or will I use Virtualdub to remove the "wav" and then use BeSweet to convert to ac3 ?

use use Virtualdub to remove the wav file then use BeSweet to convert to ac3

Use virtualdub, direct stream copy, save wav file, to extract the audio from the xvid. Rename the file that vdub produces from file.wav to file.ac3. Vdub adds a wav header to this file so use ac3fix.exe (tools section) to correct this. Encode your video to .m2v with your favourite encoder.
Now getting these files onto a DVd with the 5.1 sound intact. Heres 2 possible ways.
1) Use Spruce Up. Ensure your movies is called movie.m2v and your audio is called movie.ac3 (i.e. the filenames match except for the extensions). Oh, they must also be in the same directory. Import the video into spruce, it will automatically import the audio. Author.
2) Ulead DVD WS (1.3). Use TmpGenc mpeg tools to multiplex the video and ac3 file into an mpeg stream. DVD WS will now import this file quite happily, complete with 5.1 audio.
Hope this helps.
