Setup :-
NEC ND1000A DVD+RW (2 weeks old)
Abit SA6R MBoard
Windows 98se (FAT32)
VOB instant CD/DVD v6.5
Problem
Windows insists on sizing my DVDRW's as 650 MB, or occasionally 4.7GB but read only, or various oddities in between.
VOB instant disc works - sort of, enabling me to copy large AVI files (3.8GB) to the DVD, but then refuses to let me copy or drag them back to the hard drive producing various error messages.
Have successfully copied audio CD to CDR/W using Vob instant copy.
Also succesfully produced set top playable DVDs using pinnacle express.
Windows has allocated standard CDrom driver(none supplied with drive or apparently available) and no amount of tweaking or updating forces any change.
All in all my system seems totally confused by this hardware even refusing to read known good CDr's . (Previous HP CD RW worked fine)
I suspect some form of configuration/driver problem or whatever.
Have tried all the obvious (uninstalling rebooting - Reinstalling rebooting etc.) to no avail.
Previous posting brought no replies - now getting desperate - Please somebody help!!!

I've been having the same problems with my own DVD burner (sony DRU-500A) and Windows 98se. Windows keeps saying that my blank DVD-Rs are audio CDs with 2 gigs of data on them, but if I eject the disc and try it again sometimes Windows will say the disk is a 650 cd-r disc. I've tried numerous things and nothing seems to help. I'm going to try a newer version of Windows and see if that does anything. If it does, I'll let you know.

Things are a little better in as much that XP now sizes the disc correctly, however I still have one problem in that if I right click the drive and select
"instantwrite DVD+RW format" it fails.
If I try dragging files to the disc it states "cannot copy file - disc is write protected".
I can drag and drop within the VOB instant program but even within VOB I can't delete the individual files only erase the whole disc.
Do you have the same problems ? Are you using a different program to VOB instant CD/DVD?
AS you have this drive working OK I would appreciate any pointers,
