    Hi,

    I have a question.
A person who I knew told me he stopped backing up dvd's with menus because he had some movies where the dvd's where authored so that they where playing with the order of the vob-id's or even skip vob-id's.
That resulted in picture without sound.

He only backup's now the main movie by ripping the dvd to HDD, open ifoedit, open the movie vts_<main_movie_vob>.ifo, then strip all unused languages and check Program_Chain_1 to see if after "uses VOB-IDs:" there are missing vob-id's. If so he strip's all the vob'ids that are not used in this PGC.

As an example he showed me the movie SIGNS where you can see after PGC (uses VOB-IDs) that there's a vob'id not listed.
When he was going to make a backup of signs he would strip that unused vobid and he told me that if I was going to make a backup on 2 dvd-r's that I problably would have a scene in the movie without sound.

Can anyone tell me if this all is true ?
(I ripped now 3 movies with dvddecrypter, splitted it with ifoedit and burned them with recordnowmax and those rips all worked fine but before I continue with ripping I would like to know if above is thrue because if so I think I'm going to start with ripping only main movie and skipping unues vobid's)

Is there somewhere some understandable information that I can find on the net to learn something more about this topic ? (ifo, vob, vob'ids, ...)

    Thnkx for your reply !

  2. I just finished Signs...it was a bit problematic for me as well. It would rip (and I tried several times using different methods) up to about 70%, then it would pop up that it couldn't find the key to unlock the .vob files...I ended up ripping only the movie via smartripper and dropping the movie into DVD2ONE. It worked fine in DVD2ONE. I have a friend that was able to copy the disk using DVDXCOPY. However, to date, I have not been able to completely rip the disk to my HD without getting the error.

  3. This is Odd

I used DVdecrypter last night on Sign and worked like a charm. Then used DVD2One burned...All done

  4. Decrypter worked fine on the movie .vob's, but there was something in one of the other features that was preventing me to rip all the files so I could use InstantCopy...needless to say, I used what I could get and did a DVD2ONE copy.

I backed up Signs with DVDXCOPY version 1.4.1 without any problem, 2 disks though.
