  1. I use dvd2mpg and I wondered what is the diff between BiCubic Filter or Nearest Neighbourhood?

Because I tried both on a small clip and I didn't notice a diff? I am asking because I want to use the bbmpeg plugin but it is supper slow! But Nearest Neighbourhood is a bit faster.

Does any body know how to get it faster or another free plugin that is fast?

I have links to some pics I took below:

  2. Record some video with small text, so small you can barely read it. You should see that the Bicubic filter will make the video look better (easier to read) when you use the bicubic filter to make a smaller frame.

  3. that is the only diff? Ahh I don't think I would care then...

  4. You will be killing quality if you use nearest neighbour.

As skittelsen stated, bicubic resize helps sharpen/maintain the detail which can be lost when you reduce the framesize. If you are doing a DVD rip, I strongly suggest you use bicubic resize.

If you are using bbMPEG, then that's the problem. It is quite slow and not the best quality MPEG encoder either. You should try a faster (and better quality) encoder (e.g., TMPGEnc or the Panasonic MPEG encoder for MPEG-1).

  5. I don't like TMPGEnc, so I guess I will use Panisonic plugin...

  6. BTW, I'm kind of curious. Just how much faster is "nearest neighbour" vs. "bicubic" anyway?

  7. Not On a 3 minute film it would have taken about 45min BiCubic I think, and about 30min Nearest?

    So not to much...
