  1. DVD+R IS the new improved version of DVD-R.
    IT'S BETTER.

dvd+r is doing better just by looking at the media prices are droopping so much. you can get verbatim dvd+r for 1.67/each. and dvd-r has been out a long time before but their prices for the branded medias are still COST too much more than a dvd+r disc.

dvd+rw is the way to go.

  2. ochsfamily the Sony DRU500AX is very buggy rea my other post about the burn and read other people's post Sony make's a buggy burner some people have alot of problem's other people get lucky and get a good one there alway's breaking down
Just another FALSE example of poor information. READ the threads..there are MORE people with DEAD PIONEER burners then there are SONY burners. The sony burner is more versatile and MUCH better then the Pioneer. I haven't had a single problem with the DRU500a in over 100 burns, I sold that and got a hell of a deal on a brand new DRU500AX for the money I got from the DRU500a, and the DRU500AX works too too smooth. I know you Pioneer people feel betrayed by Sony knockin' Pioneer Out with that Multi-Format burner..but hey..that's life..you gotta live with it. Sony's the Worlds biggest electronics Giant for several reasons..and Quality is damn sure one of the main reasons.

  3. Well my Sony 500A will no longer record at 4x no matter what brand media I buy. I even moved it to a new computer and still no 4x. I finally just gave up and bought the Pioneer 105which works flawlessly at 4x.

I read your post regarding that days ago..that has nothing to do with a "buggy" drive, that has to do with the firmware revision 1.0g. 1.0f burns at 4x flawlessly from what i've read.

Almost certainly, the next firmware revision, 1.0h, will rectify that. You made a bad decision on going with the Pioneer. I hope you still have your receipt, because you might want to reconsider your decision. I GUARANTEE MOST of the people who CAN'T return their PIONEER, and sit here and preach one thing, would QUICKLY TRADE that joker in for the SONY DRU500A/X..in a HEARTBEAT if the opportunity presented itself.

  5. I wouldn't praise Sony too much if I were you. Speaking from the broadcasting arena, Sony products come too soon onto the market and a lot of problems still need to be ironed out with them. Half the time they don't even have spare parts available for the first six months of production. I plan on buying a DVD burner within the next few months and have been looking at the Sony (as it will burn +R) but still don't like the reliability of it - 5 firmware revisions within 3 months is never a good sign!

  6. its funny how the -R's camp keep saying that blu ray will not play +R, bull crap, you ver look at the DMR's made by panasonic they say the exact same thing, will not support +R media, yeah thats why any and all my +R and +RW play in my E10 and E20, my friends E30 and my brothers HRS-2 and as I have said before I have not found a DVD player yet that won't play my +R's, that includes everything I have tried at circuit city, Sams Club and and frys electronics, but see I own panasonics recorders so I have -R's also so I think both are great and YES prices of -R has gone up been shopping the same place for 9 months and over that time the ritek's have gone from 49.50 to 67.70 per 50 and the +R's have gone fron $99 to $79, also there is no place other than the internet to find name brand -R's for $2 ea. I buy Verbatuims at sams club at $23.86 for 12, can't get the -R's for that price unless you shop the internet only.
By the way stopped buying the ritek's went with meritline brand of -R's for $49.50 for 50 and they work even better than the ritek's.
If I had it to do over again I would have bought the Sony burner for the same reason , you can use both
Oh by the way someone on this thread said Toshiba DVD players won't play +R's well he is wrong, popped one of mine in the one they carry at sams club for $69 and it played fine.
Keep in mind I use the bitsetter that changed the way my +R's are burned, they all are now burned as DVD-ROM instead of DVD+R or DVD+RW. Might be the reason why they play in all these DVD players now and recorders.

ahhh..so on my other few posts where I said MOST of the +R people with their +R bullcrap are just pissed that SONY shit on their head AFTER they purchased their CRIPPLED, 1 (ONE) format burner and feel screwed because of the MULTI-FORMAT burners, now appears to be as correct as can be.

So the TRUTH is finally starting to slip out huh thxkid? The pressure must be intense since so many have posted contradictory statements by you time and time again. I figured you woulda purchased that INCREDIBLE SONY BURNER if you had it to do over again. You aren't alone...MOST others who are crapping about whether +R will be here tomorrow would do the SAME, EXACT THING. Too bad companies don't give you 300 days to return a product as opposed to 30, huh?

  8. Defense, just curious, but why would anyone who is only interested in DVD-R go for the expensive Sony dual burner? I certainly wouldn't. The only reason would be for the +R capabilities ... and you don't seem too keen on that!!

    Sony's contracdicting quotes
Sony also manufactures and sells DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD-R discs. Sony executives have said that the success of one group does not necessarily mean the failure of the other.

"We have a vested interest in both groups succeeding," DeMoulin said. "Being solidly in one camp and not the other at this point is tough to do. Our efforts will probably galvanize some of the other companies into action."

    REALLY?

The higher-capacity Blu-ray discs should enable owners to record high-definition broadcasts, which offer better picture quality than the more broadly available TV broadcasts. Sony's new device records and plays back Blu-ray discs, but can also play back DVD, DVD-RW, DVD-R, CD and CD-RW discs. However, the recorder won't be able to read DVD-RAM or DVD+RW discs.

Does any one know what the differences are in the process of manufacturing DVD+R and DVD-R. If the processes were close to each other, then why not capitalize on both markets.

Profit is what drives the market so if there is money to be made in either market, then a company will enter that market. Competion is also going to be the reason that the next generation of players will play most formats.
