Hi everyone! Can someone please tell me if there's a way to convert RM (RealOne) clips to SVCD or VCD (preferably SVCD) using only MAC tools? (Preferably just OSX, although I'm willing to use Classic if I have to). I only know of one program that can do this on any platform, and that's EO Video for Windows. Virtual PC runs like a pig swimming through treacle, even on my G4 dual-867, so that's not an option really (I've got 100+ of these bloody things! ) I'm even prepared to delve into the OSX terminal, so long as there are adequate and accurate instructions.

Someone help me PLEASE!!! It seems there's almost nothing to convert stuff from Real Player.

I'm willing to go through as many steps as it takes (i.e. converting it to other formats first).

I have Quicktime Pro, and of course iMovie, but no other commercial video programs, and I can't really spend much on it.

I thought Macs were supposed to be the standard for Video!

There's a reason for this lack of tools: decoded real media content looks and sounds like utter crap. You do NOT want to be making VCDs out of rm media, or prepare yourself for a craptastic viewing experience. The reason for this is that Real Media compression is extremely lossy, and much of the original video information is lost when it is encoded. I'd concentrate on finding that media in a better format (such as Divx, QuickTime Sorenson or MPEG), so you can get some decent playback when you reencode to (S)VCD format.

Not only that, but it is impossible. Real jealously guards their codecs. If you have a powerbook with s-video out, you can hook up a DV camera to it. That's about it.

It's only impossible on the Mac (I'm pretty sure), but there's some Windows software that'll do it, although the results will not be worth the effort...
