  1. Just open your VIDEO_TS in IFOEDIT and do a disc preview.

The menu shows up and everything. No sound is the only problem, and that is obviously a concern on sync issues.

  3. I need some help!
I'm trying to backup my Robocop DVD to DVD+RW

The problem is, that the DVD contains an option to watch either the original or director's cut version.

When I view the VBO files, the start of the movie begins 18 minutes into the 1st VOB.

Further to this, at the 1st point where the director's cut differences kick in are located at the beginning of the 1st VBO file.

Converting the whole DVD results in poor quality due to the amount of extras on the DVD.

The actual movie will fit non-transcoded on a DVD+RW but I do not know how to rip the movie properly.

    Help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

  4. Hey BarryHL,
Great guide! However, I had one problem after completing alll the necessary steps. I went to check the movie before burning and I got no sound!! Which step did I miss? The transcoded final is about 4350mb and all the menus and xtras work perfect except no sound! Played w/ ifoedit and powerDVD and still no sound?
Also could I use this method to backup the Sopranos TV series?
    Thanks in advance.
PS - from what I have read here it seems that many have had success w/ your method. I hope to share the same success stories among those, because this is truly an amazing guide - Definately worth the time if menus and extras are a must for selected movies

Did you make sure you choose the correct audio tracks when you did the conversion with DVD2ONE?

Well I have used this method to backup "Farscape" and "Stargate" with no problems, I mainly use this method for serieses because I like to be able to select the episode rather than having to skip through the rest to get to it.

  6. I just thought I'd let people know that I have tried dvd95copy (http://www.dvd95copy.com), and it works great with two titles I had problems with using Barry's guide.

Now, I am far from saying that Barry's guide is flawed. As far as I know, I'm probably guilty of missing some part of the guide, and that's probably why I ended up with faulty movies (although I did succeed with Barry's guide on other movies)...

All I'm saying is that all the steps in Barry's guide will eventually be included in a self-contained software package, and it seems that dvd95copy is the best at it so far, better than Pinnacle's InstantCopy.

dvd95copy lacks the options of other software titles, but if what you want is a great looking movie with "ok-to-not-so-good-looking" menus and extras, then dvd95copy is your best bet in my opinion. Of course, it's $45 US, and difficult to find on the warez scene (hehe), but for software that good, I don't mind paying...

Hey thanks for the Excellent Guide
I have Tried this method and The Instant Copy method and i would have to say i like this methode better for one thing Instant copy hijacks my computer too long. dvd2one is much faster. With this guide and the calc provided My dvds come out flawless you cant even tell the difference in quality i have sucessfully "Backed Up" Spiderman, Beauty and The Beast, and Gladiator. The only thing i dont like is the making the folders and renaming the files if there were a script or little program that could do this process it would be excellent. Also i would like to learn how to take out selections in the menu that i dont want for instance in the spiderman dvd they have a bunch of trailers so i took them out, but when i click on them when im at the menu the dvd player freezes.

Yes, I almost always decrypt all files anyways. But I figured out the sound problem, I have to switch the English Audio to number 2. For some reason DVD2One did not have the usual two "English 6ch and the 2Ch" instead it said "undefined" every time I wish to watch the flic.
Will it be ok to burn this movie anyway and just switch the Audio selection on my Sony DVD player?
    Thanks in advance.

    Has any tried DVD2ONE V1.1.1??

Just use Ifoedit to remove the unwanted audio streams and then process with DVD2ONE.

The only problem is that it transcodes everything at the same percentage, I like to transcode the movie less and extras more but that is only a small problem.

    Best Regards.

Tonight, I finally have time to try this guide with another movie, The Sound of Music. First, I tried using 6a, but I got msg "ERROR: DVD2one Destination IFO not found. Aborting"; Then I tried using method 6b. The error this time is "Run time error - Path not found"..... and in the Analyzing the ORIGINAL IFO for characteristics section, I have "This IFO has multiple PGCs (a total 2). - Recommend IFOEDIT/CCE method for conversion". Is there another step for these "multiple PGC" IFO's?

Iam also having the same problem as you did with a run time error - o\path not found when I use Info edit update. Were you able to resolve this problem? If so how.

  13. Barry,

I've used your guide step-by-step up until the last part. Your guide advises to use RecordNOW Max... though, I've been using RecordNOW DX 4.11 to burn a DVD disc. I've burned several test discs that have been failures, although the harddrive version seems to work fine (the disc doesn't seem to load up the extras on the menu screen on two different standalone players I've used, nor does some even work on some software players on my PC). I would like to know what recording options you're using when you use the MAX version (burning in what file system type, recording speed, what discs you're using, etc.). Any feedback is appreciated!

I don't change any setting, I just use Record Now Max the way I have shown in my tutorial.

I use Datasafe or Datawrite 2x disks and burn them at 2x.

    Best Regards.

I have the latest version of Nero 5.5.10.15 and the DVD radio button is greyed out. I only have the CD option. Am I missing something on the software.

I have just got a new Sony DRX-500ULX external firewire and it does not appear as one of the recorders in Nero, although when I setup the external drive, I told it to use the Nero drivers instead of Gears..

    Any advise is much appreciated...

  16. Hi.

I tryed DVD2One 1.1.1 with the DVD of U2 "The best of 1900-2000".
The DVD is 7.91G, and tryed the full movie option of DVD2One.
The result was good image and everything works great, except one thing: the size was 4.8G. The second time i set DVD2One to "User Definide" of 4000Mb, but the result was the same, 4.8G.
Today i am going to try VOB by VOB using Barry's guide and hope everything goes ok.

    Best Regards

Was working fine till tried Austin Powers 2. IfoUpdate now says my new cells are larger than my original and aborts the update. I d/l'd v.70 and it didn't work either, but did say that one set of .vob files had 22 chapters, and the new .ifo had 23. Another had 8 for the original and 20 for the new ifo. What happened here?

  18. Seems my burning software was the problem. I used the CopytoDVD software to burn the disc and it worked flawless! All the menu links worked and the movie played fine. I advise anyone NOT to use RecordNOW DX to burn DVD video.

Just a side thought, not sure if anyone notices this but after burning my "failed" discs, you can look on the written-side of the disc and see the recording pattern (like a burned CD-R). But after burning with CopytoDVD, there wasn't any noticeable pattern, I had thought the disc didn't even burn at first. Is this what DVD-Video looks like after it's burned onto disc?

I'm thinking if you can see this pattern after you burn a disc it means it's not really DVD-Video compliant. Hope this may be of help to some people.

  19. Hello,
Is there a way to keep some of the menu options but not the others. For example, you might want to keep the behind the scenes info but get rid of the deleted scenes. That way if you clicked on the menu for deleted scenes nothing would come up but something would for the behind the scenes. Is it possible to put in VOB files with nothing in them so it still works? Do you understand what I'm asking?

  20. Nevermind the last post. I just read that no one has figured it out yet. I have a bigger issue. I'm at the step where you update the ifos with Ifoupdate. When I try to do this I get....Runtime error '76' Path not found
I have no idea what to do. Please help

  21. This guide works.

I did a dual-sided DVD (Gettysburg) and came out with great quality results. I wasn't sure what I would get, because I noticed on my rip that the sound wasn't playing on a few .vob's from the DVD (I've never seen that before).

But I got 2 clean DVD-R's with a great movie.

This was the only confusing part of the guide and may need some editing:
The IFO's that you create in step 3 of this guide are not used in step 6b of IFO Update.
Actually, after using DVD2ONE, you get another set of newly updated IFO's in with your VTS_XX Part 2. And, in each folder, they all end up being VTS_01_0.IFO. There are no files called VTS_02_0.IFO and VTS_03_0.IFO, etc.

So in step 6b. Your original folder is correct.
The authored IFO is in the same directory that you told DVD2ONE to oupt to. And it will be called vts_01_0.IFO

Once I got that straightened out, I got a great looking, working movie.

Use the calculator that is available here:

    http://www.lonesurf.com/calc2.php

Uder defined 4000 may still be too high a number when trying to
copy everything that goes with the actual movie. Be sure that you know how much every single file is in size that will occupy your new DVD-R

I've been using an older version of DVD2ONE for a while now doing each Vob set seperatley. It works 95% of the time for me. However the most common problem I find is on some movies when I run IFO Update I get an erorr that says something like "original has less cells than newly authored" I still haven't figured out a way around this any suggestions?

  24. Hi.

Yesterday i installed Sonic Scenarist, Adaptec ASPI drivers 4.72 and the update to instant copy, and since them recordnow max 4.60(came with SONY DRU-500AX) can't burn a DVD!! 5 times i tried and the 5 times gave me the message "Disc Write Error" at 90%(+/-) . desinstall Instant Copy, and the same result, and now before i try anything else, does someone knows how to correct this? Maybe RecordNow doesn't like Adaptec ASPI drivers?
    HELP.

    Thanks

Is this possible........I followed the guide for matrix. After several read errors, it finally copied the files. But parts of the movie are missing. I notice I am not the only one having probs with this movie. If you compared total video time on the original dv9 vs the new dv5, the new should have much less time. Can you compare the total video times between two discs somehow/

  27. Are you using DVD Decrypter to rip the original? You must rip ALL files. Remember, the guide says to make sure DVD Decrypter is in FILE mode.

Also, the original disc should be clean with no finger prints or scratches before ripping.

I use a different dvd-rom to do the rip than my pioneer 105.
I use a toshiba 16x dvd to do the rip.

  28. Hey Barry,

Just wondering I have ran thru all your steps, good job by the way!!!!
Before I burn the movie off i was just wondering.
If i want to burn the dvd to play in a standalone dvd player, do i have to take the files out of the video_ts folder.
I was just wondering if i leave everything in the video_ts folder and thats it how would the dvd player know how to open the folder and play the movie?

  29. ok, so i'm sitting on a fresh install of win xp... i've installed win service pack one and i need to back up some dvd's. I've reinstalled about 5 times now trying to get this guide to work.... I had it working perfect on an older computer with almost the exact same setup. So i reinstall, only have winxp and service pack one, like the old computer that worked. Now i follow your guide, do i need an aspi layer because when i run ifoedit, it doesn't say anything. Should it work if i just follow the guide, because it did before on the old computer, now i can't figure out what is wrong. I think i put in an aspi layer, but i can't seem to find one that works with winxp and amd 2400xp could someone point me in the right direction, thanks......
