  1. I have a problem that i seem to be unable to fix, I recently played vcd's on my mac with os 9(using quicktime converter/player), I just upgraded to mac osX.2 and i romatted my hd. Now i try to play vcd's using quicktime 6.0/and now 6.1 and still get this "input/output error". I have downloaded vls program and tried it, still the same result. I just tried macvcd X and it worked, but the software is not free(used the demo to see if it would play-and it worked playing vcd for 5 min). I used the search button and found this link to the thread with the same exact error, but it was never solved- https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=347693&highlight=input+output+error#347693

Are there some codec's i would need to even open up a measly .dat file?

Couldn't open the file AVSEQ01.DAT because there was an input/output error.

  2. YOU CANNOT PLAY VCDs WITH QUICKTIME IN OS X.

The reason you are getting the same error in VLC is because you are choosing "Open File" from the File menu. You should be choosing "Open Disc". Another alternative to playing VCDs in OS X is the EyeTV software from El Gato. It is free and will work whether or not you have an Eye TV. With the Eye TV software, you can play VCDs the same way you would in OS 9 - choose "Open Quicktime Movie" from the File menu and navigate your way to the .DAT file on the VCD.

  5. ok, why is it now that i have switched to mac osx that my cd rom has not been able to detect my vcd movies that worked before? Is it a firmware upgrade or somethin? Alot of my vcd's that definetely read in the past don't even pop up as a cd when the cd is inserted into the drive?
