  1. I am trying to go through the DivX to VCD guide and after downloading the programs have run into errors right away. The first step is to rebuild the files through DivFix, which I did. Then when I try to load the file on Virtual Dub and I get the problem with encoding MPEG4 or whatever.

"Cannot encode video as Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V1-V3

Microsoft does not allow the use of their MPEG-4 codec in AVI files. As a result, they have locked the MPEG-4 codec driver accordingly so that it only functions with the ASF encoding tools. All other applications receive cryptic errors (ICERR_ERROR) on both compression and decompression requests. The first version of MPG4C32.DLL to have this lock was build 3845, and build 3876 also has the lock. The earlier, beta builds of the codec, build 2700 and 3688, do not have any such locks.

Some later versions of the codec (3917+) have V1 and V2 unlocked."

That is what I found under the VirtualDub help, which only explained not helped. Is there anyway to get around this problem?

  5. well if i was you i would use tmpgenc use the wizard for vcd. then when thats done burn with nero. or if the avi is under 80 minutes just have nero encode it and burn.

  6. I originally burned it with Nero and had video/audio sync problems, which is why i'm using this method in the first place. So I download these 3 programs and follow the directions exactly and get nothing.

BTW, can't open the file in TMPGenc either. I get...

[File "filenamehere" can not open, or is unsupported]

The main question is, is it possible to burn the files using this method with it being a mpeg4(or whatever it's called)?

  7. nope they need to be either mpeg 1 or 2 to be playable in most dvd players. so somehow you will need to encode it.

  9. So I got Ulead Movie Factory, and can't open the video files on it either! So frustrating.

How can I change it from MPEG4 to something "accesible"???

  10. well if you can't open the file in TMPGenc. it is mostly because you don't have that codec installed. i had that problem with TMPGenc. i was trying to encode a xvid and i got that can not open, or is unsupported error. but once i installed the right codec it accepted it.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you get an error message when opening like file unsupported or can not open or is not supported
or you get an empty(black) video preview window
or the video look wierd in the video preview window like green or purple or pink
Try first to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.

    Hope That Helps!!!"

I pretty much had to do everything on the convert help page in reverse order, but got it done nonetheless. I appreciate everyone's help. Now, to try and get all 3 portions on 1 disc.
