  1. I have been searching and reading vaious posts, but can someone give me the straight goods or suggestions on what hardware etc i should be using here.

I make pictorials (Slideshows) etc for various people that I want to put on cd's OR DVD's . I have had no problems making working SVCD's from various programs like Proshow, MovieMaker II, Plus PHotostory etc and they ALL play perfectly on my Pioneer DV333 standalone player.

My main concern is that the customers I make these up for may not be able to play them on THEIR standalone player for obvious incompatability problems. (SVCD format)

If I were to purchase the new Sony 500AX DVD burner, and produce these same shows burned to DVD, am I going to still have the same incompatability problems or are they at least going to be minimized by going DVD?

I have heard from some that NO they do this all the time and have had VERY few DVD's returned because of this, and I had someone comment the other day that if a DVD player has problem reading svcd, then it will definitely have problems reading DVD recordable media.

Can any one please comment and help me decide as to which way to go here, cause now I am totally confused...lol

Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated.

    This is not true.

As long as you go for DVD-R media, your DVDs will be compatible with virtually all of the DVD players out there, more so than SVCD for sure.

Taken my DVD+R's to Sams club, Circuit city and Frys electronics both the DVD+R and +RW's played in any of their DVD players I tried including these brands, Sampo, Daewoo, Akai, Sony, Toshiba, JVC, Pioneer, Panasonic, Philips, Apex , the only dvd player I have had that will not play my DVD+R's and even my DVD-R's is a Apex 1100.
