I just got a new DVD player which is able to display the bitrate of the movie while you watch it.
I was fiddling around and tried a CBR SVCD to check the bitrate but the DVD player was showing bitrates all over the place.
This suggests to me that the SVCD is VBR even though I know it isn't.
Does anyone else think this is strange?

well, first of all make sure you encoded it in CBR
Secondly, CBR isn't EXACT...its more a fluctuation close to the point you are trying to acheive.
