  1. Hi,
I must convert a divx (avi) file to an mpg to burn it with Nero and obtain a VCD.
The original dimension of the file is 640X480 (25 fps), I want to convert them to standard PAL.
I use TMPGenc to do that, when the conversion arrive to 30% the PC go in crash.
What can I do to resolve this problem?

If I simply convert the file to MPG without changing the dimension I can find some problem in visualization on my DVD player?

    Thanks in advance best regards.

Yes, VCD must be in 352X288 (PAL). 640*480 is not a valid res for any type of video CD, so you have to resize. But the resizing is probably not the problem. It's more likely something wrong with your AVI. Check it for (and remove) bad frames with VirtualDub (see guides). Try frame serving from VirtualDub (and resize in VDub) to TMPGEnc.

  5. Hi,
Yes excuse me, I have seen the guides on late...
I have removed bad frames like you suggest but if I try to convert to MPG with TMPGEnc the conversion stops ever in the same point.
If I try to resize with VDub the file become enormous...
I havent found good information abt. frame server can you explain me how to configure and work.

    Thanks, best regards.

    Frame serving guides are here.
By frame serving, you avoid creating this huge file that VirtualDub creates if no compression is used. You just feed your encoder with frames - hence frame serving!

Nope, the only thing that happens with TMPGEnc is that MPEG2 encoding is no longer available. Believe me - The problem is with the DivX, not TMPGEnc.

  10. Mats, I have tried to follow yr. suggestion:

    -Open VDub
-saved again the file to remove junk frames
-re-open the VDub, under video/filters/resize changed to standard PAL size and choose bicubic.

    Now:
-If I try to save the avi I must change under video menu full video processing and I obtain an avi of some Gb not compressed

-If I try to use frame server with TMGEnc the file goes in crash.

What is wrong in my operation?

    (I hope not all)

    Thanks for yr. collaboration.

  12. I know I'm boring...
If I set in Vdub the resize and I select only half video this settings are the "output" in TMPGEnc?

    Thanks again, regards.

If you resize in VirtualDub, and frame serve to TMPGEnc, TMPGEnc will "see" the resized video, yes. Let's say you have a 600*400 AVI, set the resize filter in VDub to 352*240 and frame serve to TMPGEnc, TMPGEnc will get a 352*240 video stream.

  14. Mats you are Great!!
    Now work all well!
    I have proceded like follow:

-I have divided in 2 my AVI file with VDub.
-I have opened in VDub every splitted file, resized like yr. suggestion and started frame serve to TMPGEnc.

Is been very difficult but to the end all work!!

    Thanks, bye.

Happy to hear that! DL'ed DivX's can be a pain in the butt - Often they are not worth the trouble trying to convert, but once in a while you get that feeling that you just got to beat that b*stard!
