  1. When ever I try to load a clip into TMPGENC, I get an error that it cannot read the clip or recognise it. From what I read in this forum it presumably has something to do with codecs. Well I checked all that and they must be installed else how can I watch everything in Mdeia Player.

Does anyone have any ideas to why this maybe happening?

BTW, the version I have is TMPGEnc Plus-2.510.49.157

...and in what format(s) are your clips?

Use GSpot (see TOOLS) to identify what codecs a given file uses.

The best way to open all lot of different clips and see if you have the needed codecs is to open them with VirtualDub and frameserve to TMPGEnc... That's what I do for some weird DivX files....

  4. I checked with GSpot and it says "n.a" under both Video and Audio Codec. Now how can that be if I can play the .mpg in Media Player?
I had an unfortunate incident which resulted in having to re-install XP. However, in my previous install everything was working fine.

    Any ideas?

Now we're getting somewhere! It's MPEG, you say. GSpot only handles AVI.
If it's mpeg1, then TMPGEnc ought to be able to open it. If it's mpeg2, then TMPGEnc is not able to open it as is. You must have a 3rd party mpeg2 decoder in your system. The one used in PowerDVD can also be used by TMPGEnc, so just install PowerDVD (or the trial of PowerDVD) and TMPGEnc can read mpeg2!

  6. OK...here's where it begins to get interesting. I have PowerDVD Pro EX 4.0 installed but still no luck. It sounds like that maybe TMPGENC is not so compatible with this latest release of PowerDVD.

    Any thoughts?

Could be - but it ought to be mentioned somewhere.
I don't have PowerDVD at this box I'm in front of right now, but I think the mpeg2 decoder should show up under Environmental settings/VFAPI Plugin. If it's there, try to raise its priority.

  8. It's in the Env. settings and I've increased it's priority to 4. Is there a max to this?
