  1. Wich are the "fastest/yet good quality" settings using any of those two encoders and DVD2SVCD? To give you an idea a two hour movie is taking about 8 to 10 hours to encode using TMPGEnc with "CQ - Rate control mode" and "High quality - Motion search precision". I would like to improve that time.

I read that CCE is faster than TMPGEnc, can anyone tell me wich setting do I need to use with 2.5 version of CCE without losing quality.

You were always losing quality in video encoding.

but cce gives much more speed then tmpgenc, faster than realtime encoding in a modern cpu.

for lower bitrates it seems that the cce encoder gives also better results because it can handles, a lower mpeg stream much better and provides less artefacts.

use dvd2svcd and cce with 2 pass encoding. min bitrate 1000kb/s max 2500kb/s and max avarage about 2300 kb/s.

    resize with bicubic standard (0.6)

Audio dolby downmix, 192 kb/s stereo

the results are great, when the source is dvd.
no more filters are needed like temporal smoother or sharpen...

when the dvd is noisy, like older ones, or xxx material you should use the anti noise filter with a value at 6.

  3. hi jaspa m8, i know this a total noobee question, but it is starting to puzzle me!

    My System:

    AMD XP 2200+
    A7V8X MB
    256Megs DDR400 RAM
    40Gig HD IBM 7200RPM
    WinXP
(i know the other specs but they are not so relavant are they?) they are very similar to your pc though m8!

I use DVD2SVCD and CCE v2.50. you said a modern processor could encode faster than real time with CCE. i consider my system to be reasonably fast, and so i would have thought that i could get close to many ppl, and yet my encoding speed with CCE is usually about 1.037, meaning that many movies take up to 9 hours just to encode! Is this about right, or should my speed be greater?? i know CCE is much faster than TMPG.

Btw, i am using standard DVD2SVCD templates eg in the misc section, go to load and load up DVD2SVCDs SVCD template. i change nothing having done that so i use 4 passes, from a UK Pal source

Does this seem about correct m8??

The_Hermit1971- i hope you dont feel that i have taken over your post m8???

    It depeonds on your settings.

post your log file and than i can say the spee or bad.

there are so many reasons, that can push up or down encoding speed, like 4/3 or 16/9 movie.
    Bilinear vs BiCubic resizing
    Filters?

1.xxx means realtime encoding so its very fast, but with an xp2200 and new ram specs you should be able to encode like something 1.3-1.7

the best is post your log file

    hope this helps

( also encoding pal movies with a resolution 480x576 25fps does take ing time than ntsc 480x480 )

Freak in Cage, If your CCE speed is 1.037, then I believe you are already encoding faster than real time! But that time is "per pass". If your movie is 2 hours and the encoding speed is 1.037, the time to complete a pass is 2hrs/1.037 or 1 hr 55 min. If you are using 4-pass, then CCE is actually doing 5 passes. One to create a .vaf file plus the 4 passes you prescribed. 5 x (1 hr 55 min) = about the 9 hours you quoted.

  7. cartamy- ok m8, cheers

    Jaspa
    - how do i post my log file?? do you mean the file that DVD2SVCD makes containing all the settings/parameters???

i am very interested in speeding encoding up, i am also getting into tweaking XP which helps. cheers man!
