  1. A while back i had a thread about Playstation 2's. Anyways the problem is the PS2 freezes up when the dvd-r gets to the main movie. When you click PLay now on my menu, it goes through 3 trailers which are each their own title. When it gets to the main movie (Title 4 Chapter 1) it freezes. It may play a few frames, but i cannot tell since it is a still shot. I have tried both Memorex and Imation discs. Burned with the A03 drive using latest version of nero. It plays fine on other standalones and the pc. If i go to the chapter selection menu, i can play any other chapter, but if i click chapter 1 in the selection menu, it freezes just as if i clicked play now and watched the trailers.

    What could be the problem?
    Any help is appreciated.

  3. would that do it? the laser that is. umm i tried on a v4, 5, 6 and a 1 or 2. The v1or 2 didnt do anything just disc read error. the other three did the same thing i mentioned about where it freezes at the beginning of the movie, which is about 500 mb into the disc (4th title)

  4. Im certain that a v7 has a stronger(calibrated different) laser than older versions but not too sure if this is the reason.
Try usin some real good media like tdk or pioneer if u can- it sounds like the prob.
What burn method are u usin?

I use dvd2one and prassi- perfect every time

  7. My PS2 is having the same problem. Maybe a firmware update will fix the problem? Or it could just be the DVD-Rs I'm using (Imation + K-Hypermedia) I'm going to try a Maxell disc as soon as a movie I'm rendering is done. I'll let you know if it makes a difference. By the way, does anyone know where I can find firmware updates for the PS2? Do any newer games or add-on hardware have newer firmware?

  8. I doubt you can update firmware on PS2. You can update the DVD software although i doubt it changes anything. If you could update the firmware then why would anybody need a modchip? But yeah let me know how it turns out with the maxell test.

I guess one lesson learned is that PS2s are good game machines but terrible DVD players.

Sorry, I didn't mean firmware, I meant the drivers for the PS2's DVD playback. I think they released an updated driver with the Sony remote control and it's supposed to improve the playback capabilities of the PS2, if it affects DVD-R playback or not, I have know idea. I did try burning another Imation DVD-R movie after I just upgraded to WinXP and it didn't make any difference, the discs play fine in my stand alone Pioneer DVD player but freeze up and don't play too smoothly in my PS2. I'm still going to try a Maxell DVD-R once I finish up authoring another DVD project I'm working on, the Maxell display said they were compatible with Sony hardware, but I don't know if it applies to the PS2.
