Does anyone use DVDx to backup DVDs?
I've been using it as a one step, and I'm not too dissatisfied with the results, but I haven't found a way to make a VCD, SVCD that has the features, jump, search, whatever, that are on a DVD. As easy as it is, is there anything else, one-step, that will make a pseudo-DVD?
Or, should I just be happy to have a backup of a movie and not worry about the extras, considering that watching a movie is what it's really all about anyway?
    Thanks,
    George

    That's about it George,
I get good results with DVDX 2.2, using the varied bitrate adjustment to
fill two 90 minute blanks depending on the length of the movie, coupled with the ability to switch itself off, preferably in the middle of the night.

    Thanks, colindale,
Just about every one else is going on and on about bitrates, audio, video, etc., I was wondering if anyone was using a one-step like this.
VCDs, and SVCDs are eminently playable, at least VHS quality.
Guess I should just be happy with what I have, seems much easier than all the gyrations the pros seem to be going thru.
    Thanks again,
    George

  4. well with the prices of dvd burners going down. its just so much eaiser to copy dvd to dvd then to svcd or vcd. i can copy any dvd out there with better results and it takes me anywhere from 45 minutes to 80 minutes. really there is no need to be converting dvd to svcd or vcd anymore.

I agree with that in regards to DVD burners. In fact I was in a store today where they had a Cendyne 4x burner on sale for $219 USD. The only real problem we have now is the price and quality of DVD media IMO.

Oh, I'm in total agreement on DVD-DVD, but as of now, burners are at the equivalent of a couple dozen originals. I am not that big into movies that I would spend 300 for a burner, but when they come down a bit, I'll probably do it. Just not as of yet.
However, I would like to know what results others are getting with conversion programs, viz-a-viz, my Athlon 2000, 512 meg RAM, 4 to 6 hours from DVD to VCD, depending on original length. Is this slow, fast, normal? I tried to start a poll, but seem to have screwed up somewhere; I can't find it. If I were able to, I'd suggest it be with the same movie, and Harry Potter seems like a good trial to work with, as most anyone who has kids probably has it, whereas, I probably don't have what most of you have. To each his own, you know?
