  1. I don't know if anyone can decipher what I'm trying to ask here. But here goes. I've been having problems turning my subtitle on via the native menu. I've been encoding the main movie using cce, then burning the authored movie (with subtitles) file (using DVD Maestro) with the original VIDEO_TS and VTS_01_0.vob files. This is fine until I try to turn on the subtitle using its native menu. For some reason, the subtitle doesn't turn on. I have to just press the subtitle button a few times before it comes on. I was wondering if anyone knows how to go into the original VTS_01_0.ifo file to link the subtitle menu with the subtitle that was encoded. If what I just described is too hard to understand, then it's OK, because it's kind of hard for me to even describe what I'm having a problem with. But anyone how can understand, and know the answer, then response is greatly appreciated.

  2. your right, it is hard to understand lol.

but if i have got it, it looks like you may not of used ifoupdate.

this will correct the ifo to the authored vobs.

  3. I think I understand what you're saying. You're following the doom9.org guide for converting a DVD9 -> DVD5 and retaining the original menus and extras. So you:

    1) encode the main movie at a lower bitrate
    2) use chapter xtracter, and subrip
    3) re-author the VOB files in Maestro with the new CCE m2v, the original ac3, and the chapter xtracter and subrip files
    4) rename the authored vobs, and copy them back into the original DVD rip file structure.

Yeah it sounds like the problem is either with IFOUpdate or the subtitle stream. For example, did you rip all the subtitle streams? If there was more than one and english was not the first choice that can cause the problem your discribing.

IFOUpdate is suppose to take the IFO file from your authored VOBs, the IFO from your original DVD rip, and then generate a new third IFO that 'corrects' the chapter/subtitles. However, you menu (VTS_01.vob) doesn't know this.

You might have made a mistake when you ran IFOUpate, since it appears that the subtitle stream is there.

  4. Tell me if I'm doing this correctly. For some reason, I've always assumed that after ifoupdate, the file I want to put into my DVD is the "original IFO" file because I thought ifoupdate makes changes to the "original IFO", not the "authored IFO". Is this wrong? I guess the reason I thought this is because of the backup option that comes with the program. Doesn't it backup the original IFO file (and not the aurthored one) in case you need the original IFO again in the future?
