Ok, have now started using what must be the best program for all your backing up needs: Pinnacle InstantCopy. Use this in conjunction with SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter and you've got the ability to copy just about anything to DVD5.
Only three films have had problems so far: Scooby Doo (Region 1) plays all via menu except Additional Scenes...the scenes are there is you skip through to them, but not by menu link; What Lies Beneath (Region 2) has totally black menu (all works if you imagine menu layout); the most annoying is Harry Potter disk 2...menu plays but does not access anything.
With these small exceptions, I think the program is well worth the money and would recommend to beginner and expert.
If anyone has some advice on the problems I've had, please let me know!
