  1. I have been reading the forums for a while now but I have not come to a conclusion on this yet.

Is there any advantage to using VBR, 2 pass VBR, or CQ VBR as opposed to using a high bit rate CBR? This is assuming disk space is not a factor, I already know VBR uses less disk space. I guess I'm just wondering if there is any image quality advantages?

  2. m8,

the only advantage with using VBR is that one can get more play time onto a SVCD. if a high value CBR is used then the quality is very good, but you will only get about 40 mins onto each CD-R. using VBR i can get 60 mins + onto one CD-R! this usually makes the difference between using 2 CD-Rs for an average movie & 3! However, if the no. of CDs that you are prepared to use plays no factor, then you may as well use CBR as you will get better quality! it should be noted though that the quality is always good with VBR, and in action sequences, explosions etc then it becomes VERY good! also, as SVCD supports VBR, then there are no compatability issues!

    hope this helps m8

  3. Well, I'm going to be using DVD instead of a CD so space is less of an issue. I was just wondering if there was any other advantages in image quality using VBR, I wouldn't think so but I just thought I'd ask.

  4. no m8, as long as you put the Constant bit rate value as high as the max bit rate VBR would go up to then the CBR would, at all times, be as good as the VBR!

there are no other advantages with VBR other than increasing play time!
