Is there just one simple program that will do this job of giving it a video file, especially DivX format, come back later and find you now have an .avi, .mpg, whatever but damn DivX, mainly so I can burn to CD/DVD (when I get it !)

Yes, I know there is the good DivX to VCD guide, but surely somebody must have done a program that can convert any DivX to a VCD/SVCD format, instead of using 2/3/4 different programs

I use EO Video as my converter, it works, and does the job quick enough for me, but I also have Discreet Cleaner 5, which is too damn slow

Or at least a decent front-end that lets you select the file, and does all the hard work for you, calling the converters, saving the files, etc, etc

In fact, like the front-ends to the DivX 'fit a DVD onto a CD' converters, which are now so many, you really don't know what is worth the time and effort getting

    Thanks in advance

dvd2svcd(or called avi2svcd when making vcd or svcd from avi/divx)
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/111846.php
You can skip the first step using virtualdub and let dvd2svcd cut automatically instead and also the last step with authoring if you instead make a bin/cue that you can directly burn. It requires some configuration that may be a bit tricky to understand...but it does most stuff for you except burning.

You can also use ulead moviefactory2 and add the video and if the video is too long for one vcd/svcd you can select half the video and then it will cut, encode and burn. But if the divx movie is in widescreen/letterboxed it will become stretched cause moviefactory cant add borders...

    Thanks,

I thought I noticed MovieFactory 2 converting it to VCD for me, when I gave it a couple of 'problem' DivX files that other converters and editors baulked at and crashed

I gave up on that method, due to being ultra-really-slow, but if I was setting up a batch and then creating a DVD-R with them, then running it overnight would probably do the job wonderfully, leaving a nice DVD-R waiting for me in the morning

I'll try that when I get around to having £200 to go buy a Pioneer A05, which looks perfect for my needs, as I don't need DVD+R and DVD-R, plus its cheaper than the Sony DRU500

I'll have a look at AVI2SVCD later on today, and see if it speeds things up for me, then I can set-up a batch, and leave it overnight, instead of having to do it by hand, as I am currently

    Thanks again

My intention is to 'backup' my precious DVD films using either DVD Clone Pro, DVD Movie Copy or InstantCopy 7 which are all waiting on my system to be tested 'till I find the best for 'my' purposes

I wanted to convert to VCD because I can get more on a DVD than compared to using SVCD, top quality doesn't matter when its been collected via Kazaa, and are really classic TV series that I don't want spread across loads of discs, really one series per disc, which using the VCD format will let me do nicely
