  1. I just bought a IBM Deskstar 60gxp 40gb (ATA 100)now when i check the drive using miro video expert for data rate i get
    Available video data rate : 1331 kb/s
    write:2040 kb/s
    read :8000 kb/s

now with my slave drive a 20gb maxtor udma33 i get
    Available video data rate : 6144 kb/s
    write:18336 kb/s
    read :20924 kb/s

I have tried with and without the VIA drivers with a format in between with about the same result i've tried with dma enabled no via drivers with win ME and win98 can anyone give me some idea's on what i should expect to get from this new drive the only suggestion i've had from IBM support is to return the drive and if they find it faulty they will repair it this could take between 4 days to 4 weeks depending
    THANKS IBM for your help

the rest of my system is:

    Athlon 1.3ghz 266fsb
    Gigabyte GA-7DX (AMD761 AGPset)
    Sound blaster live
    Elsa Gladiac500mx 64 mb AGP
IBM Deskstar 60gxp 40gb (ATA 100) primary master
Maxtor 20gb (ata 33) primary slave
    Mitsumi CR-4804TE secondary master
    Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1502 secondary slave
    Win TV PCI
    All 6 weeks old
any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

sounds like the new IBM disk is your master containing the O/S. have you tried going the other way, making the 20gb maxtor your master with the O/S and the IBM 60gb the slave as a dedicated video drive? that's pretty much how i've got my setup, my older 20gb disk as my master with the O/S and my newer 61gb maxtor as my slave and dedicated video data drive. could just be the overhead of the O/S (memory management, etc.) on the master/boot drive.
