What is the most foolproof way of capturing and burning SVCD for playing on my standalone DVD player. So far I've tried capturing with MMC and burning with Nero & VCDEasy. With both I get sound but no picture All I want is footage from my camcorder and from TV but with better picture than VCD (which I have no problems with) If I need different software I'd prefer it to be freeware as my wife doesn't let me spend much money.

  2. is your DVD player able to read SVCD's...?

    try doing this

    you have an MPEG2 File
use nero, make a VIDEO CD
drag the MPEG2 file into the VIDEO CD area
ignore the message(hit the first button, the highest one)
    and burn.

it works fine for me, no quality loss

Yeah definately supports SVCD (Alba dvd 103) and recognizes SVCD, sound plays but with no picture. I've burnt them with Nero as above, but no joy.

No problems what so ever - when using compliant tools.

    Non-compliant MPEG2 encoders
Until a week ago, I had given up on ever getting my Nintaus 9901 to play SVCD's. Then, for the fun of it, I tried frameserving to CCE 2.66.01.07, from Virtualdub (DeXT mod) - and encoded a SVCD MPEG, fully mux'ed from CCE. I then used VCDeasy 1.1.4 to author and burn the CD - voila!

I'm now able to make and see SVCD's on not only my own Nintaus, but also on my friends' DVD-players, where some of them have had simular or other odd experiences.

    CCE or MainConcept
In short - forget your present MPEG2 encoder, unless it's CCE or MainConcept - seems to be the only 2 compliant encoders out there. I've tried a large number of MPEG2 encoders this week, and only those 2 seem to be somewhat compliant to the MPEG2 standard.

    Good news!
Cinemacraft has made a cheap, but very handy version of their MPEG encoder - Cinemacraft MPEG encoder basic, which is on sale for just $58. I know I'll be one of the first customers :)

Yes, I tried using TMPGenc - and my Nintaus has tons of problems when using just that encoder (audio is sometimes ahead, sometimes lagging - but never right).

However, when using CCE or MainConcept's MPEG encoder - no prblems what so ever.

In short - it works with others. It doesn't work with TMPGenc. Now who's to blame?
