  1. Recently acquired a very high quality 'Screener' copy of a movie on SVCD (3 CDs).

Can't copy it....some kind of wierd copy protection. Original CDs play fine on my DVD player, but when played on the PC a strange series of electronic 'Blocks' can be seen darting around the screen.

Tried copying with Clone, Nero, CDRWin etc....tried extracting just the mpegs....no joy. Have made lots of coasters now....)o:

The original CDs I have are copies themselves (CDRs), so it must be possible somehow....???

    Anyone come across this problem?
    Anyone have any ideas please?

    Cheers - A.

  3. Try IsoBuster (www.isobuster.com) and select to extract the .mpg file using the raw data option.

In the past that has helped me with various CD copy protection schemes.

what do you mean by "electronic blocks" that dart around the screen?

and what error message do you get when you try to extract the mpeg stream? does it extract any part of the mpeg stream?

hey jeex, where do you buy that motherboard in your computer specs? i can't seem to find it for sale anywhere.

also, the dual P4 3.06GHz, WOW, how long does it take you to encode a 2 hour film (at highest quality)?

also, how much does 4GB of RAMBUS RAM cost, (how about the cost of the motherboard that can accomodate all that?)

Finally, I can't find the Hard Drives on Pricewatch, where do you get the 10KRPM drives? does the higher RPMs help in encoding/capturing?

sorry for all the questions but I am in the process of trying to sell my current computers and I want to take the money and put it towards a system like yours, but I can't seem to find places that sell those items (except for the processors)

    thanks,

    Andy

he was just putting you on ...

top dual p4 is 2.8 xeon dual which is 533 buss and uses DDR memory (not rdram as stated).. you can also have a dual 2.8 xeon w/ 400 buss and rdram (i have that one) ...

  10. That happened to me once when viewing an SVCD on my PC (strange coloured blocks darting around the screen, also short screetching sounds in the background) so I switched players and it was fine. The movie wouldn't play properly using PowerDVD but it was fine in WinXP.

  11. i think there are damaged or bad sectors (intentional or unintentional, i dont know) which prevent extracting the mpeg stream or copying the disc, but the dvd player will just skip over them and move along.
