  1. I recentle had a HD crash and have reinstalled everything on my pc. I have the new catalyst drivers and all the updates for my card. The only big difference that I can see in my config now and before, is now I am running winxp home instead of pro, and now i have dx 9.0 installed.. I am trying to capture in both the ati .vcr and mpeg2 with no sucess. It drops between 93 and 95 % of frames. Before my config was great and I regularly capture 2 - 3 hour files with less that 1% frame loss. Ne ideas would be appreciated. thanks

I don't know how easy, or hard (you may have to reinstall XP) it is but I would try going back to DirectX 8.1. I have heard MainConcept encoder has a problem with DirectX 9.0 and I would not be surprised if other apps/drivers have problems also.

I make it a habbit of never installing patches (unless it is for a specific problem I have), upgrades and service packs until they have been out there and used/tested for at least 3 months. I have seen this "kind" of thing happen before.

  3. Well, since I'm sure you set a restore point before you installed DX9, just roll back to that restore point, presto, back to DX8.1!

You did set a restore point before you installed DX9, right?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

I don't seem to have problems with DX9.0 once I uninstalled my ATI card latest drivers and went back to an earlier set. I just regged the Mainconcept Mpeg-2 encoder in Video Vegas 4.0 and converted an old AVI to DVD spec and it works great. This is under Win98SE.

  5. i didnt set a restore point before i installed dx 9, b/c i didnt have dx on it before. it was a fresh install, I have gone back to the earlier driver, same porblem, I have tried dx 8.1 and 9 on both driver sets, same problem. I did notice that with dx 9 and the older driver set i was only dropping like 78% instead of 95....
