Best speed to burn VCD?

I have a 8x8x32 CD-R. I'm thinking about buying a 52x24x52. Does it matter at what speed you burn or copy a VCD? If it's not good to burn or copy at 52x and guess I'll keep my current CD-R. Thanks, for any help.

There have been many posts on this subject, you might want to do a search. Basically, the burn speed does affect play back for many people but it depends on the media, the burner and the DVD player. I burn at 8X only, but some people use a lower setting and others have no problem going higher. It's up to you, but for the sake of maybe saving a few minutes in burn time, I wouldn't bother.

Yes, burn speed is largely dictated by the quality of the media you are using and the tolerance levels of your DVD player.

If you use cheapo 'supermaket special' CDs, chances are the quality of the recording layer will mean you can't get a reliable burn unless you record at low speed (4 to 8 ). If you use mid-range inexpensive CDs (the type your local PC store sells) you will probably be able to get good reliable burns at higher rates say 20-30, to burn at 52 and get a long-term reliable CD you would probably need to use high-end (and more expensive) CDs.

Having said that you can still be lucky and a get a good batch of cheap CDs that can be burnt at high speeds but you'd need to do your own testing to see how far you can push your local brands before your player refuses to read them.

In your position I would go for the new burner, it will give you the choice to burn quicker where possible and newer burners have better buffering and over-run control so that making coasters are almost a thing of the past.

I burn at 12x no problem on all forms of media. I've never had a single problem with any of my vcd/svcd disks.

i usually burn 16x or 20x...i don't think the difference between 2,400kb/s(i think) and 3000kb/s makes much of a difference....i have yet to have a vcd fail me....(i use fujifilm, the normal lookin ones, not the color-spiral ones)
memorex also worked fine at these speeds
