  1. Hi there!I was recently watching a vcd on my pc and without thinking I changed the dat file to be associated with mplayer2 rather than nothing (just the windows icon)so that I could just double click on the file and play.
Then I thought about all the other dat files on the system that I do not think have anything to do with vcd.It may just be a coincidence but I think since I have done this that I have a lot of operating problems.
What I am asking is now that all the dat files on my system are associated with media player 2 (6.4)can this do any harm or does it not matter. Also if this is a problem how can I undo this so that dat files are no longer associated with anything!WHY DID I HAVE TO FIDDLE!!!
Hope this makes sense! Thanks for your time in advance!

  2. I thought about doing this myself but didnt when I thought of the consequences. I dont know for sure if it can do any harm if it does however you can remove it like this.
    1) Open My Computer
    2) Click on the View Menu
    3) Scroll Down and click on the Folder Options Button
    4) Click on the File Types tab
    5) Scroll down till you find the dat file extension listed
    then click remove.

    That should sort it out

  3. It "shouldn't" cause any problems...

If it does, you can remove the association by:

Open up a folder on your PC (e.g., My Documents)

Now on the toolbar, click on "View" --> Folder Options --> File Types.

Now, find the "DAT" type file and remove the association.

    Regards.
