  1. I'm trying to go from mini-dv to divx.

I have transferred the video to my hard drive via firewire in mini dv format (DV-AVI), not compressed.

I found out though that Vidomi divx encoder can NOT encode divx from mini dv format, why it can't I have no idea but it has caused me a major headache.

I got the huffyuv-2.1.1 codec because it is supposed to be loss-less and was suggested as a work around for just this problem. I also have AV_IO but I can't get it to capture any video from my mini dv player, even if I have the player running when I start the software as they recommend.

I guess I can't understand why it is so difficult to encode un-compressed avi into divx. I'd even spend money if there was a way to do it. Does anyone know if this is possible.

edit: I posted here becuase I don't know if there's another way to capture it that would let me encode into divx.

  2. Virtualdub only recognizes type 2 DV files and requires a DV codec. You must therefore capture in a type 2 DV avi file with DVIO or DVapp (freewares). You must also install a DV codec (for example, the Panasonic DV codec). See the Tools section in order to download these.
