  1. Well I though I had it all worked out but I can't get the dame movie on CD!

    I'm on a:
    * PIII - 800MHZ - WinXP

    And use:
    * Plextor 48/24/48
    * Sony DVD/CD Player DVP NS-400D (Standalone)

    I tried
    * cloneCD
    * Nero
    * EasyCD creator
    => Sony CD-rw MultiSpeed 1x2x4x
    => Plextor CD-rw UltraSpeed (24x)

    What I already did:
    Wel I tried for days to burn my movie but it won't work and after reading forums for houres I start to have the impression I'm the only one who has this problem.

    As my DVD player doesn't recognize CD-r nor SVCD I used the VCD header trick from:
    http://www.geocities.com/newestmoviesencode/dvdvcd

    This didn't worked so I did the whole thing to convert mpeg2 to VCD:
    https://www.videohelp.com/mpeg2tovcd.htm

    I also tried to burn with all the different progs on the media's mentioned above and at different speeds going from 4X to 24X. but ...

    The Prob:
    The movie plays fine when I launch it from the HD in PowerDVD but once I burn it I have green garbage accros the image and the sound is like scrambled with noise. My standalone Player recognize the disk but outputs the same mixed up image.

    I must be doing something wrong as I have the same problem with the sample vcd's from this site!

    PLEASE I realize I still have a lot to learn about movies but I can't believe that I'm the only one having this prob. So if any of you Movie Wizards can help me out with this I will be eternaly greatfull!

    thx for all sugestions

    Describe in more detail your methods for creating a (S)VCD. What tools are you using? None of
    I tried
    * cloneCD
    * Nero
    * EasyCD creator
    qualify as a tool to use in any (S)VCD conversion, regardless of source material.

  4. Ok thx very much to take a closer look at this post.

    But I did not create the movies myself I just downloaded them.

    For the VCD header trick I used: TMPGEnc and to convert from mpeg2 I also used DVD2AVI 1.76+.

    The strange thing is that:
    * All the versions I made (converted, original,..) worked fine as long as I did not burn them on CD-RW! Once burned the movie is bad on my pc and standalone player.

    * I had the same prob with the samples from this site.

    Thx for al the help!

    OK, downloaded files - probably DivX AVI then.
    If they play fine on the computer after reencoded to mpeg, the problem must be at the authoring or burning stage.
    Author and create bin/cue with VCDEasy. It will tell you if it finds something out of the ordinary with your mpeg.
    If your burner isn't supported by VCDEasy, burn the cue/bin with Nero, else let VCDEasy do the burning too. Keep the writing speed low - 4-8X to be on the safe side.
    Could also be that your player has a hard time with CD-R (they can support VCD without supporting CD-R's y'know!). Try a CD-RW instead, which is more like a manufactured CD than a CD-R to the player.

  6. It kind of sounds like the disc for some reason isn't being burnt properly... Have you tried another burner?

  7. nope downloaded files are mpeg2.

    VCDeasy however gives me an error msg when I create the bin file. Apparently some data at the end of the mpeg is corrupted and can't be added to the bin file. In the bin file 25 Mb of data are lost which could be the prob (When I saw this I thought I found at least a reason).

    But I can still look at the movie when loading the bin to a virtual drive (using deamon tools). I suppose you know the result on cd

    The demo mpegs that I downloaded here:
    https://www.videohelp.com/vcd

    do not give this error msg but won't play on CD either.
    As I'm trying for weeks now to get this working (I still can't believe I couldn't figure this out myself ) I experimented most of the time with CD-RW and not CD-R.

    I don't have another burner.

    Well I hope you have some magic tricks left. Anyway thx very much for the cool replies.

    I'm out of ideas! Does the CD play as (S)VCD on the computer, using PowerDVD?

    /Mats

  9. Yes

    PowerDVD and my standalone player recognizes the CD-RW as a VCD and start playing it. but the image is jamed with green lines and garbage and the sound scatters.

    If my burner is the prob be warned and don't make the same mistake as I just bought it!

    thx for all suggestions

    Siech

    P.S.: I'm sad that apparantly I won't be able to burn my movies but at least I'm not a complete idiot (I wasn't sure anymore the last weeks as I didn't found any post with the same prob).

    Mighty strange - I've got a Plextor 16/10/40 that has worked like a champ for 2 years now. Never had a problem that even remotely could be hardware related. Have you tried writing at low speed, like 4X?

    /Mats

  11. Yes I tried to burn at:
    4X, 8X, 12X and 24X
    => only the standart plextor allowed me to burn at 24X as it is a high speed CD-RW. The sony allowed me to burn at 4X.

    I red alot before posting this message here and apparantly the speed is 1/2 of the times the prob. But for me the prob was identically at all speeds. the quality didn't improved by reducing the speed.

    Have you tried differant brand of media? Sony's can be finicky about this.
    I had some princo that would not play in a standalone or pc. I use fujifilm brand that are made in Japan by Tayo Yuden.
    May the force be with you.

    No, burning speed is not the issue. The so called "quality" issue with burning speed refers to the readability of the disc.

    Your discs have been burnt in such a way so that the data is essentially corrupted on playback.

    I had this problem once before and it was identified as an idiosyncratic issue that Nero had with my old burner (a JVC 2 speed burner). Everyone else with the same model burner reported the same problem with Nero. The result seemed the same as what you described here: "green garbage accros the image and the sound is like scrambled with noise".

    I can only guess at what is wrong, but I hypothesise that your burner is incorrectly burning the MODE2 Form2 sectors. Thus my suggestion that you try another burner...

    Best of luck.
