  1. Is it actually possible to get hold of a DWU10A in the UK? I ordered one from simply and they have delayed it from the start of Feb and now they say they are due in on March 14th haha! Anyone know where to get a full original boxed retail version (Not OEM)..

    thanks,

  2. Hi,

I got the U10a about a week after Sony released the item. The company i got it off was www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk. I got it for £230 i think!

the U10a is an OEM version if you want the retail you have to get the AX version - as the U10a superseeded the 500a. But i got 12 months warrenty from the website, i think theyre getting some in.

  3. Hi,

Ok that's great thanks very much for your help.. I'm still a bit confused to be honest though lol..

Is the DWU10A more up-to-date than the DRU500AX, if the DWU10A replaces the DRU500A?

  4. Hi,

The Sony DW U10a has officially replaced the DRU500a.
The Sony DW U10a carries the new 1.1a firmware update as standard - but i found newer ones on the net up to 1.1c.

The DRU500AX is newer and retail version of the DRU500a - Sony supports this drive, but DOESNT support the DW U10a.

If you want a pretty drive go for the 500AX cause it sorta silver and has the Sony logo on the front. On the other hand if you want a drive that is made by Sony and does the business get the U10a its up to £60 cheaper than the retail version.

  6. The dw-u10a is not a replacement for the 500A. It is the oem version. The 500AX is the replacement for the 500A. Essentially they are all the same drive although sony will not support the u10A (firmware etc). You can reflash the u10A using the hacked 500A firmware and then use official firware thereafter.

I bought my dw-u10A about 1 month ago from meshcomputers for £204 including shipping. It came with nero and powerdvd.
