I don't know everything and if digitalmaster says that the 6 hour template in tmpgenc will give you 6 hours of DVD quality video that's standalone compatible on a single disc then you have nothing to lose, but a disc or two by trying it. I'm sceptical to say the least, but have been wrong before.

I have a list of 900 movies NOT coming out onto DVD anytime soon so capping to VCD, SVCD or DVD is the only option.

Hey, you still got your VBT-200 (RCA)? I still have mine!
If you're talking to me, Yes I believe the RCA(s) are in the attic but I wore out the heads on the rotary video drum, Then they came out with 6 hour models that did better timeshifting (more timers) But I'd swear those original RCAs made better quality tapes. Somewhere (attic?) I still have the old color camera for taping to a vcr from before camcorders and a SVHS Full size camcorder...

  3. The thing is I don't wanna buy a capture card and a DVD recorder if I'm not positive this will work ... That's why I'm trying to gather as many opinions about this as possible before I make my next step.

My advice would be to start a new thread asking for input from anyone who's tried these templates. I gotta say on sheer logic I cannot get myself to believe anybody out there has 6 hours of DVD quaity video (wonder about the audio too?) on a single writable DVD disc. That's not to say I'm going to call anyone a liar who says they do, it's just tough to believe. DVD compatible is not necessarily DVD quality either especially if use something like DVD patcher to trick programs into thinking non DVD compliant streams are. The kvcd site claims DVD compliance and quality though. I dunno, would be interested in hearing some input on this myself.
