  1. I have been reading how people don't like a lot of the newer movie or sequels, and I think a reason for that may be because we all know the GOOD GUY never dies! Even in a horror film some scrubs get killed, but never the main character of the film. That is why I enjoyed movies MUCH MORE as a kid, then I do now, because as a Kid, it took me a while to figure out this person is gonna live no MATTER WHAT, so I'm just curious what movies are known to have the main character die? I know some people are thinking Jedi's in Star Wars, etc...but I consider those movies to have two or more main characters...i.e multiple JEDI's, etc.

The only movie I can think of off the top of my head where I was COMPLETELY thrown and shocked at the outcome was in "ARLINGTON ROAD." Man was that movie crazy. Not only was the main character killed, but the a ton of FBI.....that shit was CRAZY! Anyway, please post movies which have the GOOD GUY actually die and NOT COME BACK TO LIFE like all the damn superheroes etc.

  2. How about Sweet November. The main love intrest dies. Caus' if I was dating Keono Reeves I'd kill my self.

Yeah I thought Arlington Road was a great movie, I never expected that ending. Its definitely one of the most underrated movies I've ever seen.

Well, I think talking about main characters dying might ruin the movie for others, but oh well...

The first one that comes to mind is perfect storm, but you know they will die from the beginning so its not exactly dramatic.

    Armageddon- Bruce Willis sacrifices himself.

    BraveHeart!!!!!

    The Last Castle

    The Green Mile

    Glory, they all die.

Pay it Forward- I was glad when he died though, stupid stupid movie

    Old Yeller!!!

American Beauty- not a suprise though since you know at the beginning.

  7. thanks for the replies...I guess I didn't think too much about Armageddon..that is true. And I'm not sure how I missed thinking about BraveHeart when that is probably my all time favorite movie. As for the Perfect Storm, I guess I didn't think about that one, because it was based on a true story and as mentioned, most people knew the outcome from the beginning, but still..good point on the movie. Some of the other movies I haven't seen, but i'm glad to know there are at least a few. Any others people know about? How about "thriller" movies where the main character good guy ALWAYS seems to survive some how or another. Any thrillers anyone knows of where the main character gets killed?

Oh, and Adam, I'd have to agree that Arlington Road is one of the most underrated movies. I mean, not only did the GOOD GUYS DIE, BUT THE BAD GUY GOT AWAY SCOTT FREE!! Very few movies have me in to them...but I have to admit that Arlington Road got to me up after seeing that. I was stunned for a few days after..lol...crazy

Swordfish. Good Guy doesn't die, but Bad Guy wins.
Desperate Measure. Bad Guy gets away.
Evil Dead 2. 'The Force" has the final word.
Army of Darkness, original ending. Good Guy ends up in the wrong time
12 Monkeys. The Good guy you are pulling for Dies.

  12. I guess I should of been more specific when I wrote this topic. I didn't write exactly what I was thinking. I didn't think about some of those movies like Gladiator and Braveheart and Armageddon because those people in those movies died for their COUNTRY or for their PEOPLE, and being that a lot of movies like that are based on true stories, or seriously could be based on true stories, then one person for an entire COUNTRY or WORLD is the right thing, so it doesn't seem odd, although it may be disappointing to see that person die. I was more looking for a movie like a thriller where there is a CLEAR bad side and a CLEAR good side. Good Vs. Evil, and that there is a "CLEAR" main character who DIES.

I know MovieGeek mentioned Steven Seagall in one of those movies, but I know he is a big name in Hollywood, but there's no way he's a main character if he's dead within 20 minutes of the movie. That's kind of like Samuel L Jackson in the DEEP BLUE SEA, that was shocking how he died, but he wasn't the main character. I just think WAY too many movies are too easily deciphered. I mean, when watching a horror film, you know that the shrink in Silence of the Lambs isn't gonna die, or the therapist in Halloween, and the only reason Jamie Lee Curtis got killed in Resurrection was because she was sick of the Halloween movies..lol. I can name a ton of thrillers where the Good Guy who is almost always the main character, at least on the "GOOD SIDE" always somehow survives.

Swordfish. Good Guy doesn't die, but Bad Guy wins.
Yep, great movie, but how many movies have the Good Guy DIE and the Bad Guy or Bad Guys win? The ONLY one I can honestly think of is Arlington Road, and that is the type of movie I was looking for. To see how many others not only have the GOOD GUY die, but also, have the BAD Guy win. I think that is the reason Arlington Road is so UNDERRATED. Anyone who watches that movie has seen a million others similar, and your brain almost tells you what the ending is going to be, or going to be like. And when you see what happens, you are absolutely stunned. At least I was.

If anyone can think of a movie where the Good Guy DIES and the Bad Guy wins, please post it. Thanks

oh yeah. i never would have thought of that movie. also, movies like menace II society and Boyz N Tha Hood also have most of the characters die.

  16. lol...when I said good guy I didn't mean the biggest Drug Lord in the World...Scarface was great, but I wasn't just asking where the main character dies if you read my last post prior to this one. I was asking where the "good" guy dies and the bad guy prevails. In scarface, technically the bad guys live and die. Great movie though. Basically the same holds true for Menace to Society and Boyz in the Hood, ..New Jack City could be thrown in there too. Anyway, all those were good movies in my opinion.

For a while I thought there was going to be a sappy ending. Even after realizing Maggie wasn't going to pull through I was surprised at how she died.

Psycho - Janet Leigh gets it early in the piece while the audience is still hoping she'll repent and return with the cash. She has second billing after Perkin's - it doesn't get much more 'main' than that.
