How to convert avi to avi (smaller avi)?

How do i convert avi to avi but the converted avi should be small and if neccecary in more bad quality ? And with which program?

check the "tools" section, and look for Stoik Video Convertor.

It will allow you to resize an .avi, or use a different codec and re-encode an .avi (I wasn't sure which "smaller" - file size or image size - you meant)

It's decent quality, and pretty fast - lots of the stuff I've used it for (reencoding from .wmv to .avi, or changing from uncompressed .avi to Divx .avi) it runs close to or faster than realtime (30 fps).

Another option that will give you more control (and is a much more robust program overall) is Virtualdub - it's great. It's a little harder to use than Stoik Video Convertor at first, but only because it's got so many more features than SVC.
