Canopus ADVC-100 and DVD-compatible streams

I was told to check on whether the Canopus ADVC-100 is capable of providing a good MPEG stream for DVD compatibility. I would hate to change my mind about it just because of all the good things being said about the card - seems like it would be the perfect capture card besides real-time cards.

The Canopus ADVC-100 does not provide a MPEG stream, but a DV AVI stream which you then have to encode to MPEG for DVD compatibility.

I wasn't a big fan of this to start off (adding one more step to the process of course) but now that I've been capturing with the ADVC-100.. I wouldn't capture any other way...

Two thoughts of this:
You need LOTS of hard drive space.... that's a given with capturing in AVI format

And I do believe there are SOME software packages on the market that will capture and do the MPEG convert on the fly...never tried any so don't know of the quality....

Well, I guess that's not so bad - I was planning on editing the movies a bit before exporting them to MPEG and finally DVD. Thanks for the input.
