  1. I was also wondering, i know you can use tmpgenc to compress like divx files and avi files so that fit on your 700mb cdr's but is there a more simple way to compress the file so that it fits???????

  3. TMPGEnc does not really compress divx files, it changes the format to mpg, to make the movie playable on a standalone DVD player via VCD, SVCD or DVD (after authoring and burning). Depending on the divx to start with, after you have encoded to mpeg (again depending on bitrate) the file could end up smaller or considerably larger than the original divx.

Just to give an example, say you have a 700mb divx file and the quality of the picture is very good, so you want to encode to mpeg2 to put on a DVD. If you optomize the bitrate for the length of file for 1 DVD-R this 700mB Divx can easily become an mpeg2 greater than 4GB in size.

If you have a divx and just want to make it smaller, you can recompress to divx with a lower bitrate, this will reduce the filesize. You will only be able to play the divx on your PC though, the vast majority of DVD players will not play divx. If you want to encode with divx, you can use virtualdub to do this.

Remember each encoding process will introduce losses in quality, particularly when encoding to a lower bitrate.
