I just noticed that some of the CVD's I've been cutting using TMPGenc's MPEG TOOLS, aren't splitting nicely. The audio stops at the split point, but the video plays on for 5 or more seconds, which is not as I expected, and rather wasteful. The same split/start point on the second mpeg works as expected, with no audio wierdness.

I'm thinking it may be because I don't close my GOP's, and it's an I frame thing, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, does anyone have a better split tool they use?

  2. Hello DJRumpy

Yes I have found the TmpegEnc merge cut etc. poor.

The best splitter/editor I have tried, frame accurate, is the Womble MPEG2VCR editor.
It is listed in the tools section of this site, along with other editors you could try. Womble's site is at http://www.womble.com

At least it's not me then. I convert my personal movies to DVD, but I often author SVCD/CVD for friends. I actually viewed one when I noticed this. Thanks for the info Sonic. I'll check it out. Is it freeware, shareware, or pay for play?

  5. Sorry, no I had to pay for the Womble editor.
But you used to be able to download a Mpeg-1 only version for free/trial.

When I have used the cut etc in Tmpeg I haven't had more than a second or two error.

I have found it is better if you are using CBR for the original if possible.
It is much worse with VBR editing.

If you need to use Tmpeg I have found it best to select "source range" from the original during encoding. Then join the seperate files together after.

For all of those like myself, who are having MPG cut problems, please go to the Pegasys (if TMPG plus) or TMPG's web site if it is VCD only and place a support e-mail.

When I did that recently, they claimed ignorance of splitting problems, in my case, when I split VBR, SVCDs, TMPG freezes all of the time. Please let them know. The seem like good people, but sometimes their responses are hard to understand because of a lack of english skills.
