Awaiting feedback on this:
For turnaround reasons I capture DVD compliant files with my Hauppauge WINTV with Intervideo'sWINDVR2 as follows:
352x480
48kHZ Mpeg1 Layer2 224 Kbit/s
Video ~ 7000 kbit/s
I frames only
motion detection vector 16x16 (max)
Well, this is not standard DVD nor very space efficient but gives me the best results for high speed motion and I'm very picky for any hesitation I see in the video.
The video is not completely compatible with all programs but can be fixed by just cutting / loading it in Cyberlink's PowerVCR II 3.0's editor.
Now: Every step after the recording- in my opinion- can't improve the original recording anymore. So running it through TMPGEnc etc. can only lead to worse results as the I-frame just can't benefit from B and P frames because the recorded I frame in this file is the best available. I have yet to be convinced that ther are methods with IBP frames at any given bitrate that do a better job, e.g. gives me a better or equal quality/ high speed motion and lower file size (lower bit rate). All I have seen just adds more artifacts and shows some kind of hesitation.
Sure- AVI recording or MJPEG recording might be better but needs post-processing. I don't want to go for that. Anybody has a better method? If not- anybody can just try this and will hopefully have the same good results as I have and has a super-fast turn-around time for creating a DVD from captured video. Minimal processing time and the results are very good /excellent.
