  1. Ok I'm somwhat of a newbie at dvd-r. Here is my problem when I try and keep the original menu with the movie I can never get it to play in my settop dvd player(Pioneer DVD-434). The disc works fine on my computer using Power DVD though. Although If I don't keep the menus and us Spruce-up to Author my dvd's they work fine in my settop. I have put the disc in another settop and it played fine in that one, but I'm not sure what kind it was anymore. So I guess my last question I would ask is it me or the settop player that isn't functioning properly.

Just for a little more info on the subject I was using DVD Decryptor and IFOedit when keeping the menu's and SmartRipper and Spruce-up when making my own.

  2. OH YEAH, THE OLD FASHION WAY OF DOING IT...

Many of us tried those old guides etc, trying to keep
menu's and extras, but to no avail, you'd be surprised
if you drop the menu, at the success rate you'll
achieve, if you use ifoedit 95, just create new ifo's
for main movie, you just loose menu's, you dont
really need anyway, just so you know they are
    video_ts.vob
    vts_01_0.vob
just get sectors when finished processing...

  3. You need to run IFOupdate on the original movie IFO and the re-authored IFO (created by Spruce). You can dl IFOupdate at doom9.org . You need to perform this operation in order to play in set-top players. I had same problem when I started this process (which was only like a month or two ago..

  6. Here is the way I do it, using Smartripper, DVD2one, Ifoedit, and Ifoupdate.

    1. Rip the entire dvd to your hard drive.
    2. Run DVD2one, keeping one or two extra audio files.
    3. Run Ifoedit, and extract the extra audio.
    4. Copy the new VOBs into the directory you first ripped the disk to. Be sure to rename the new ones to match the originals. Keep the original _0 VOB and the original movie ifo.
    5. Check the total file size to see how many extras you have to take out. On some, i.e. Hannibal, you don't have to delete any extras!!!
    6. Manually delete enough extra VOBs to get the file size under 4.37 gigs. Be sure to leave the _0 VOBs.
    7. Run Ifoupdate, and update the original movie ifo.
    8. Burn( I use Nero).
    9. Enjoy!!!
    Sometimes, ya just gotta.....umm, what's the word........FART???
