Is it normal to start ripping slow and end slow?
My Lite-On DVD-ROM Drive usually starts ripping at about 3.0x and slowly ramps up to about 7.5x at about 50% of the DVD being ripped. Then it slowly goes back down and ends about about 3x.
This is on a DVD-9, Lite-On LTD-166.
Just curious.

Mine starts slow, speeds up, and stays up. I've got a lite-on but forget model number. Seems to vary from disc to disc some what. You'll always rip DVD-5 faster than DVD-9, but even among DVD-5 discs it varies.
I rip this one series at 15.5x! It took me like 3min to rip the whole disk (~4gb). Other DVD-5 discs max out at 7x and take 8min. Who knows why
