  1. Hi Folks,
Which is the best DV Capture software and if I intend to make a VCD in what format should I capture the video Type 1 or Type2.

Among capture software I have heard of ScenalyzerLIVE and DVIO.. has anybody used either of the two.

    Thanks for the help folks
    Regards

  2. For DV capturing, all software are essentially equivalent in terms of quality as there is only a transfer of the DV from your camcorder to your computer.

As a general rule, you are better off capturing in type 1 DV avi file. However, some software (for example Virtualdub) do not accept type 1 DV avi files. In these cases, you need to capture in a type 2 DV avi file. You would also need to install a DV codec such as the Panasonic DV codec in order to use type 2 DV files.

Only a few programs allow type 2 DV captures. DVIO is one of them. DVapp is another one.

The capture quality maybe the same but the quality of the software isn't. If you have a slower system, bloated resource hog programs like Ulead are more likely to drop frames than small simple programs like DVIO and Scenalyzer. By the way Scenalyzer also does Type2 files. I've used both and if you're looking for absolutely no extras and have no reason to worry about the 4GB limit DVIO works just fine but if you want a preview window and or need a program that automatically splits large captures for you, Scenalyzer is the best.

  4. Thanks a lot folks. I have windows Xp and planning to use Canopus ADVC100. ScenalyzerLIVE says that they may have problems with certain systems. Has anybody faced any problem.

    Also one fundamental question.
Is it better (from quality point of view) to capture analog signals in Digital format (using ADVC-100) and then use TMPENG to convert it to VCD format or is it better to capture in analog AVI format and then use TMPENG to convert it to VCD .
