I am new to the realm of DVD burning and bought the Cendyne 105/Firmware 1.21 last week and have yet to burn a successful DVD. I'm running the latest version Nero on XP and don't get any errors when I burn. I'm currently using the Princo DVD-RW that came with the drive until my Ritek G03's arrive. I'm using DVD Decrypter to put the DVD onto my hard drive, and then IfoEdit to strip out everything but the movie, audio, and subtitles that I want because it won't fit on one disk without getting rid of the junk. Anyway, to get to the point, are my burning failures due to a Nero problem, cheap media, a compatability issue, or am I screwing up somewhere else? Appreciate the help.

Maybe thats why theres a world shortage... Apparently wholesalers are having probs as well
"According to Ritek, recordable DVD discs are in short supply. Both Ritek and CMC Magnetics are planning to transfer part of their CD-R discs production lines to recordable DVD disc manufacturing.
Ritek said that it has already increased recordable DVD disc shipments to 10 million units per month in the first quarter, up from eight million units near the end of last year, but it still cannot meet the strong demand from its clients, according to the Economic Daily News.
The company told DigiTimes that its CD-R production lines are already running at full capacity just to produce CD-R discs alone. To shift part of its CD-R disc production to recordable DVD discs, the company will have to increase shifts to boost volume for both products.
Ritek projects shipping over 200 million recordable DVD discs this year, for a 50% global market share.
Ritek said that although the first-quarter is the traditional low season, demand for CD-R discs has been very strong this year, especially in Europe. The company mentioned the possibility of raising quote prices for CD-R discs in the second quarter. The current quote price for a CD-R disc is around US$0.18-0.20, according to both Ritek and CMC." -
I had a problem with the included DVD-RW disc that came with the Cendyne drive. I tried to burn to it 3 times and it would always error out using RecordNow DX. I bought some Maxell DVD-RWs and it recorded fine to those. I have had no problems with the Ritek G03s that you're waiting for. The only problem I have is that Riteks that I burn with the Cendyne 105 won't play in my Sony DVP-S7700, but when I use the Pioneer 104 at my office with same media and software the backups play fine in the Sony 7700. The 104 did not have any problem with the DVD-RW that came with the Cendyne-completed the burn the first try. I think different media will solve your problem.

would you suggest any other media types that might do well in the 105 that could also play on a standalone? I have a Toshiba SD2800.

I've had good results with the new batch of memorex dvd-r. They are made by Taiyo Yuden. I've had no issues with them in my cendyne dvr-105 and they burn at 2x. They are also $3 a disc though.

I had problems burning on my Cendyne 105 using Nero and the same DVD-R blanks I had been using on my 104. I downloaded the trial version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory2 and that did the trick. Burns fine, no coasters. Ordered a software bundle from www.meritline.com for $30 that included Ulead DVDMovieFactory2SE, among others. Compared it to the trial download and couldn't find any difference. I've been using some inexpensive blanks from Meritline, 1x and less than $1.

I hope you guys taking into consideration that RW discs, either - or + are pretty much for computers. Since they are rewritable ones...
Anyways, most, if not all Pioneer Standalone Players can play all the cheap medias out there... I bought some Princo for USD 0.60 cents each one and it played fine on my Pioneer DV525 and Sony DVP NC600 5 disc changer... I would try different brands and see which one works with your DVD Stand alone and stick to that brand...
