  1. I want to convert a divx file to a mpg file in order to make a vcd.
My question is how high can i set the video bitrate in TMPENC in order to have hardly any loss in video quality?

p.s. I cannot play svcd on my dvdplayer so i have to stick on vcd.

There is no rock solid answer to your question.

Make bitrate as high as your dvd player can handle it, also how many discs are you willing to put 1 movie on? Also using 2pass VBR instead of CBR it will help you fit better quality on less disc space. Make some five minute tests w/ different bitrates then burn them all on 1 disc and do comparisons. This is the only real way to figure it out.

  3. Try using Bearson's bitrate calculator. It is freeware and is available in the tools section of this web site. You simply specify how many discs you want to split your movie to and the bitrate of the audio. It will then tell you the maximum bitrate for your film.

  4. If you plan on making standard VCD's the bitrate is 1150000 bps. if you want to make xvcd's then try 1500kbps - 1800 kbps. Perception would be the key here; I can't tell you what looks good to you so - trial and error.

  5. The problem is i have a panasonic dvd-ra-61 which is not able to play SVCD. However i can increase the bitrate for vcd also to 2520 (as std svcd bitrate), and having no problems to play.
However the quality is not the same as a SVCD (played on pc).
