  1. Is it possible to athour VCD's or SVCD's with animated menus similar to DVD's? Obviously you won't get the same interaction, but can it be done?

By this I mean a looping mpeg as a backdrop to the menus. Also can you use small looping mpegs as links to different footage similar to sceen selection?

If not is it possible to have an intro mpeg which leads into a still menu?

Please excuse any obvious questions here... I'm new to this.

You can do all of those things with both VCD ands SVCDs, but you will be limited to the # keys for navigation, which means you will have to "draw" numbers onto your moving menu's.

Take a look at the Motion Menu's section on my guide.

Pinnacle Studio 8.5 is by far the best app for making animated menu buttons as well as a motion background on the menu screen. Supposedly Ulead DVDWS and Sonic MYDVD 4 can do the same, but in my opinion, they are garbage. Pinnacle is a much higher end company. Dont let the software encode your main material though, use TMPGEnc for that.

Mando, so do you mean that after the menu plays, it goes black for a second before repeating again?

Did you set the animated menu to "play forever?"

Are you sure that there aren't just some black frames at the end of your clip? Try opening it in TMPGenc and going to file/preview and checking each frame.

This may just be a limitation of your dvd player. Every player I have tested (S)VCDs on pauses on the last frame before repeating, so its fairly seamless. Its possible your dvd player just goes to a blank screen for a split second at the end of the track, before it repeats again. If this is the case then there might not be anything you can do. You can try going into Settings/ (S)VCD Player in VCDEasy and decreasing the Pre Gap. This may make jumps from tracks faster so that you skip this blank screen, but this will result in a non-compliant disk so there is no telling how it will play on any given dvd player.

  7. Thanks, for replying so fast.

Tygrus, I think that the problem is not the software I use to build the SVCD, is more likely the MPG file or the DVD player.

    Thanks for you help.

    Adam,

    Yes, I mean exactly that.

For your second question, yes I set it to play forever; I also introduce the I-frame.

Last night I was testing if the last frame was a blank frame.

I open TMPGnc, load the .AVI went to setting, then Advance tab, and Source Range and I re-point the last frame to be a picture frame not a blank one, them I re-generated the .MPG file. This was really late at night, so I haven’t tested in my DVD player, but I will to night and I let you know.

Again Thanks a lot for your help and that great guide.
