  1. Right people,

Here'a a good questions for you all.

Can you name sequels which are actually better than the original ?

Here's is one to get you started, Mission Impossible 2 was ten times better than the original.

That's only because MI2 had a plot you could actually follow. I didn't like either one of them.

    Austin Powers 2
    Terminator 2
Evil Dead 2 - Less story & More Gore!!
    Batman Returns - Meow!
Class of 1999 - Not a sequal, but a remake of Class of 1984
The Falculty - Remake of Class of 1999
Nightmare On Elm Street 2 - Less like Home Alone, more like a Horror Movie
Helraiser 3 - I could actually follow it
    Rambo 2

I'd have to disagree with Batman Returns. In my opinion the first Batman is the only one worth watching.

Blade 2- first one pretty much sucked in my opinion.
    Godfather II.
Superman II.- The first one started off too slow and the end makes absolutely zero sense.
Its a tough call but I think I may like Back to the Future II better than I, but both are absolutely incredible movies.

I agree with Superman 2. I thought both blade movies kinda sucked. I also thought about Back to the Future, but I loved them all and didn't want to put one about the other. I tend to look at all of them as one whole. Batman return, I feel, had more of the Comic Book feel to it. The first one is very, very far from the comics. Tim Burton was later quoted as saying he has never read a comic book....kinda funny.

ESB is actually my least favorite out of the triology, though I love them all.

I agree with all the sequels mentioned as better than the original except for Blade 2. I think the first Blade is better. Suit yourself on which is better as matter of opinion.

Regarding Star Wars, the original trilogy is the best, Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The recent SW releases are horrible especially the last one, "The Clones" as so boring.

When will Terminator 3 be released? I am a fan of Arnie's "terminator". I don't know how many times I have watched the sequel, Terminator 2. It is excellent and want to see a new film soon.

  8. tgpo m8,

i agree with most of your votes, but i felt that First Blood- Rambo 1 Was much better! I guess they are quite different so i reckon it depends on your tastes! however, i am sure you will agree that Rambo 3 was by far and away the worst!!!

  9. How about Aliens?

Empire Strikes Back certainly. By far the best of the Star Wars films, and the one that George Lucas had the least to do with.

Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn - much better than The (Slow) Motion Picture.

I've never seen the first Mission Impossible, but if MI2 managed to be 10 times better, the mind boggles at how bad MI1 must have been.

Artificial Intelligence 2. I know that it doesn't exist, but nothing at all is infinitely better than AI.

And Speed 3. That is, Speed 3 the episode of Father Ted. Much better than either of the films.

I dunno....I really didn't like Rambo: First Blood. I'd say that one and three were on the same level. But I really liked Two. It was really more of my tastes.

And I liked Speed, but never saw Speed 2. It looked too dumb for me.

Actually its coming out this July, but you may have mixed feelings abou it. Arnold is in it but James Cameron isn't directing it. I think the weirdest part is that the evil terminator is actually a female and she's named the Terminatrix! Sounds more like a porno to me.

Anyway its going to be called Rise of the Machines. http://us.imdb.com/Title?0181852

You can check out the trailer on that site.

Is there anything to be said for saying another Mass?

Not sure about the MI films. I thought MI2 had too much of the Woo Woo touch and not enough plot.

Indiana Jones? Raiders was by far the best, Temple of Doom sucked big time and I switched off after 15 mins of Last Crusade. I hear that 4 is in the pipeline....

Dirty Dozen? The first one rocks, the rest are shite.

Dirty Harry? The first is the best, but they tail off as they go on.

Pretty much agree with the rest of what's been said above.

    Regards,

    Rob

p.s. anyone else think that the Bond films are getting worse?

I watched "Die Another Day" last week and really enjoyed it. I really haven't liked any of them post Roger Moore, so that was definitely a pleasent suprise.

I think the best bond is "For Your Eyes Only", which must be about the 10th sequel.

    Dave

P.S. Is this forum working today? Edit: Yes!

The original 14 movies with Sean Connery and Roger Moore were much better.

  15. And another one... Mad Max 2. Definitely the best. Supposedly there's a Mad Max 4 coming as well.

The Mad Max movies is a classic in Australia. The film "Stone" is another classic. I just viewed it last night as an excellent movie and I enjoyed it.

I got the Mad Max: The Road Warrior on DVD as region 1. The original Mad Max is on BETA and I am trying to get the DVD version on PAL or NTSC. It is very hard to get, looks as though I will have order it from local rental store or order online.

I also got Mad Max 3 on DVD, this one not so good compared with Mad Max 2.

  17. Beverly Hills cop two comes to mind.

    T3 news:

I saw the trailer on TV, during the Super Bowl? Maybe...

Anyhow, it seem to be based on the book.

    "Infiltrator"
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

All three are available on region 2 PAL.

  19. In general, the sequel is "usually" a big let-down. In my opinion, the sequels which were better or just as good as the original are:

    a) Terminator 2
    b) Aliens
    c) Back to the Future III (The second part was not much enjoyed by me - but I agree with tgpo and rate all the three films as one)
    d) Return of the Jedi
    e) Beverly Hills Cop 2

The "Jaws" sequels, Star Wars EP1/2, American Pie 2 promised much but were a big disappointment.

Beverly Hills Cop II better than I?

Come on, it's got that Danish pneumatic blonde in it who only got the part because she was buffing Stallone at the time. She was awful!

  21. Rambo First Blood had a loose plot to it but First Blood Part 2 has no plot what so ever, and I shall not even coment on Part 3.

Jackie Chans Police Story 2 I think is slightly better than Police Story 1.

And Jet Li's Once upon a time in China II ( or OUATIC 2) is better than OUATIC 1.

Blade 2 I thought was really bad compared to the Orignal.

Best Bond Film "Man with the Golden Gun", even though it doesn't have the best Bond in it (Connery) R.Moore and C.Lee seem to pull it off.

I think Roger Moore is the best 007 of the lot, his DVD's is very hard to get and here at home the "Octopussy" DVD is out stock just about everywhere. Octopussy is to me seemed to be the best James Bond film made.

The DVD of Octopussy is found, what a hard find in Sydney. A mammoth 20 movie DVD collection is available in one shop. If anyone is interested in getting a PAL version of the James Bond collection, let me know by messaging me.
