Hi everyone. What's a good tool to add effects and cut and join AVI files from a DV capture? I tried using MS Movie Maker, but the AVI it produced couldn't be processed by CCE.

I'm trying to find an easy way to get my movies off my digital camera and onto a dvd-r.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

  2. I use Avid Xpress DV. If you're a student you can get it for about $500. (Much more if you are not.) The nice thing is that you can output your project as a small Quicktime reference file and encode it with CCE. Which helps save space since you don't have to make a new, very large file wth all the video combined. Another option is Adobe Premiere which I believe can do the same. You can do all sorts of effects in both programs.

Avid is also coming out with a stripped down, free, downloadable version of Xpress DV. However, I do not believe it is avaliable yet.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did find out that I could get CCE to recognize the AVI file if I ran the conversion utility from a type-1 DV format to a type-2 DV format. So, it looks like I might be able to use MS Movie maker after all... Free is better than a few hundred bucks..
