  1. I want to make a VCD from a PAL divx file that is 384x288. When encoding, should I just use tmpgenc's standard VCD template at 352x288, or should I unlock it and set the size to 384x288. I've tried tests in both formats and really can't see a difference. This is a VHS capture and I basically want the correct res, whichever that may be.

Better use TMPGenc standards (not 'unlocked' : you loose a piece otherwise). TMPGenc will 'resize' the video to fit inside the 352x288 bounderies completely by enlarging the black frame a bit.

  3. A VCD at 384 x 288 is actually an XVCD (.i.e. not standards compliant). If it plays fine on your DVD player and thats all you want, then good for you. Remember though, if you want future compatibility (your current DVD player WILL get replaced sometime) or you want to distribute this disk to family and friends, it may not play correctly or even play at all on other players. For highest compatibility, stick to the standards.

    Hope this helps
