I have a decent PC with 1.6 and 512MB of Ram and 20GB free on my hard drive. This IBM laptop is really a decent machine.
My problem is that no matter which encoder I use, it seems to take forever to translate a 30 min movie. The Nero seems to take about 1.5hour. The adobe mpeg seems to take 2 hours and the DVDit PE seems to take about 1.5 hours.
I am converting from AVI to MPEG2 for DVD burning.
Is there any software out there that does not take so long

You often sacrifice picture quality for speed, but the mainconcept encoder does a good job, as does cinemacraft and both are fairly quick. Try ligos also.
