    I see these terms intermixed and I cant figure out the difference. Do you know of a guide that explains the differences.?

    The Glossary here has the definitions. But to make a long story short, DivX is a kind of AVI.

  3. DivX is an AVI file encoded using the DivX codec. You need this codec installing on you system to play the file.
