I recently captured my digital camcorder movies onto my hard drive and edited them the way I wanted. I then used Sonic MyDVD to make the menus and a nice DVD layout. However, everytime I try and burn the DVD with my Sony DRU 500-A I get an error and a coaster. The only thing I can come up with is that my burner states it runs at 2.4x, but I think it was bumped to 4x with that firmware update. The media I'm using are TDK discs, but they only say 2x on them. That's the only source of conflict I seem to be able to find, as I have burned DVDs on these discs without a problem using RecordNOW. When I use the MyDVD software I have no choice on the write speed other than the auto setting. Is there any way to force it to write the DVD at 2x? Am I stuck with it always trying to write at 4x and I just need to get some new media? ANy help is appreciated.

Hi,
Not sure if this helps you, but I'm also having trouble with the burning process with MyDVD. At the Sonic support website they suggest 3 things (I'm doing this from memory, I can't seem to find the actual webpage so please forgive me for any errors).
1) put the following three folders (Sonic software uses them) towards the top of your file directory structure on your hard drive (MyDVD Temp, MyDVD Project, My DVD Capture).
2) Delete your present build of the projcet (all MyDVD files that are related to the present project).
3) Set the MyDVD software defaults to these folders (in Preferences). Also save your project to the MyDVD Project folder).
4) Rebuild your project from scratch.
5) Instead of outputting the project to DVD output it to your hard drive (you will get the VIDEO_TS folder with VOB files). I believe the feature is 'Make DVD Folder' or something like that.
6) Burn the VIDEO_TS and other folders with your burning program (MyDVD also creates other folders for the menu stuff).
This doesn't work for my problem but since you get to burn using another software, you should be able to control the speed of the drive.
