  1. I've been encoding downloaded divx files for a while with no problem. recently i downloaded men in black 2. after converting it i watched it on a APEX dvd player. the video froze alot and had alot of artifacts in it, but looked fine on my computer. it was worse on my mintek dvd player. the video would just freeze at certain spots but the audio would keep playing. I tried re encoding with CQ instead of 2 pass but I had the same problem. Thinking maybe it was just a bad download, i downloaded antitrust and encoded it. It was worse on my mintek player. I couldn't get the video to play at all (audio was fine), but it worked fine on the APEX. what is going on here? i thought i saw a topic similar to this a few weeks ago but now i can't find it so if someone has some info on this i'd appreciate the help. thanxs...

What format are you converting them to to watch on the DVD players?

I've been having trouble getting SVCDs to work properly - I'd have similar problems to what you're having. So I reencoded the file with a drastically lowered maximum bitrate (My original encode was 2520kbps max, the actual maximum bitrate in the finished file turned out to be 3207kbps, and after many retries with lowered maxs, it was still exceeding the standard rate, so I cut the max down to 1900kbps, and I've finally got a file that stays below the maximum bitrate for SVCD standard)

I'm just multiplexing the audio for it now, then I'll go and see if it works 8)

So try that, if you're making SVCDs, cut the bitrate down.

  3. im converting to 352 x 240 MPEG-2 SVCD format program stream. I've tried 2 pass VBR with a maximum bitrate of 2613 kbps and constant quality with a max bitrate of 2520. could it be a bitrate problem? how come i didn't have trouble with it until now?

That resolution isn't the correct SVCD res. For NTSC discs, they should be encoded in 480x480, and for PAL discs, 480x576. Try that, see if it works then.

  5. I changed the res to a cvd resolution of 352x480. i know my dvd player supports cvds because i've played them before, but now with a CBR of 1950, it still freezes. the video just stops but the audio plays and then the video plays again after a few seconds. i've re-installed tmpegenc but that didn't fix it. whats the deal????
